1 Peter 1:3

Living Hope

Verse

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope.

Thought

Born again to a living hope. Not to a pious idea, not to a theological concept, but to a hope that lives. This hope is not dependent on circumstances; it is founded on the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

There are days when hope feels like an empty word. But Peter is not writing about a feeling here. He is writing about a reality: God has caused you to be born again. That has happened. And what he has born you into is alive and cannot die.

Today you can stand on this hope, even if your feelings still need to catch up.

Truth & Application

Truth: Your hope is not your optimism. It is God's work in you. He has caused you to be born again, and the goal of that rebirth is a hope that lives because Christ lives.

Today practically: If a moment comes today that feels hopeless, remember: Your hope doesn't depend on that moment but on the One who rose from the dead.

Question for you: What are you basing your hope on today, circumstances or Christ?

Prayer

Father, thank you for your great mercy. Thank you that you have caused me to be born again to a living hope. Today I hold on to this hope, even if my circumstances look different. I let go of resignation and discouragement. Holy Spirit, make this living hope strong in me today. Amen.
