Romans 6:23
Gift Not Wages
Verse
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Thought
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. Paul contrasts two systems: One pays wages, the other gives gifts. Sin pays with death. God gives life. And this gift is in Christ Jesus.
You don't earn eternal life. It is a gift. And gifts are received, not worked for. The old system pays what you deserve. The new system gives what you could never earn.
Today: You live in the system of gift, not the system of wages.
Truth & Application
Truth: Eternal life is a gift, not a wage. You don't receive it as payment for good behavior but as grace in Christ. That changes everything about how you think about God and yourself.
Today practically: Remember: You live in a gift. Not because you earned it but because God is generous.
Question for you: Do you live like someone who has been gifted or like someone who still needs to earn?
Prayer
Father, thank you for the gift of eternal life in Christ. I didn't earn it, but I gratefully receive it. Today I live as one who has been gifted, not as a wage earner. I let go of the merit mentality. Holy Spirit, remind me of the grace that carries my life. Amen.
