1 John 4:19

Righteousness as a Gift

Verse

We love because he first loved us.

Thought

We love because he first loved us. This short sentence contains the entire logic of the New Covenant: love does not begin with you. It begins with God and flows through you.

When you try to love from your own strength, you grow tired. But when you recognize that you are already loved, love becomes natural. It is not your performance but the fruit of what God has planted in you.

Righteousness in the New Covenant works the same way: you do not become righteous through doing, but you do righteous things because you have been made righteous. The order is decisive.

Truth & Application

Truth: Love and righteousness begin with God, not with you. You are the response to his initiative, not the beginning. This frees you from the pressure of having to produce everything from yourself.

Practical today: Consciously receive today before you give. Take a moment to let God's love for you become real. Then give from abundance.

Question for you: Where are you trying to give today without having received first?

Prayer

Father, thank you for loving me first. Thank you that I do not have to be the beginning. Today I receive your love anew. I release the pressure of having to do everything from my own strength. Holy Spirit, let me love from abundance today, not from duty. Amen.
