Hebrews 10:10

Righteousness as a gift

Verse

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Thought

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Once for all. Not every day anew. Not after every mistake back to square one. One offering. Once. Done.

Sanctification in the New Covenant is not a process you must work through. You are sanctified, that is your status. Not because you live holy, but because his offering is sufficient. Your standing before God depends on Christ, not your daily performance.

This is both liberating and challenging: If you are already sanctified, then you no longer live for sanctification but from sanctification.

Truth & Application

Truth: You are sanctified, once for all. The sacrifice of Christ does not need to be repeated, supplemented, or refreshed. Your standing is firm because his work is complete.

Today practically: If you feel today that you are not holy enough, remember: Sanctification is not a goal but your status. Live from it today.

Question for you: Where are you still trying to earn holiness that has already been given to you?

Prayer

Father, thank you that I am sanctified, once for all. Thank you that Christ's sacrifice is complete. Today I live from this status. I release the pressure of having to make myself holy enough. Holy Spirit, show me today what it means to live from sanctification. Amen.
