Prayer in Trials (Rom 5:3-5)

Original Prayer

We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,

and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,

and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Context (Old Covenant)

Word of Paul (Rom 5:3-5), New Covenant: God's love is already poured into our hearts through the Spirit.

What it teaches

Hope; character; love poured out.

Realization in the New Covenant

Romans 5:3-5 shows the New Covenant path through trials: tribulation produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, character produces hope.

  • And this hope does not disappoint because God's love has been poured into your heart through the Holy Spirit.
  • The key is: God's love IS already in you.

Prayer in the New Covenant

Father, thank You that Your love is in me. In Christ strengthen my endurance and keep my hope alive. Show me how to walk faithfully today. Amen.
