Home Group Session 9: The Holy Spirit in Daily Life, Asking, Being Led, Living in Obedience

Part 1: For the Home Group Leader, leading & impulse

Goal of the session: help participants discover and put into practice the leading of the Holy Spirit in daily life. It is not about big signs, but about sensitive, trusting obedience, in the middle of normal life. ⏱ approx. 60 minutes

📚 Preparation: John 14:16-17 / Romans 8:14 / Galatians 5:25 / Acts 8:26-29

📖 Key verse

Romans 8:14, "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." ✨ Opening: honest exchange "When did you last have the impression that the Holy Spirit led you to something specific, and what did you do?"

No evaluation, only sharing. Then lead over:

"How do we recognize whether it really is the Holy Spirit, and how do we learn to follow him?"

Short impulse: daily guidance by the Holy Spirit

1. The Spirit is not silent

The Holy Spirit speaks, through inner impressions, Bible verses, other people, dreams, peace or unrest. His voice is not loud, but clear. (cf. John 10:27)

2. The Spirit speaks to sons, not to slaves

He does not lead through fear or pressure, but through love and certainty. (cf. Romans 8:15)

3. It is not about big heroic deeds, but about small steps

A phone call, a smile, a bold prayer, a clear no, obedience begins in the small.

4. Learning by practice

It is okay to make mistakes. Whoever practices hears better. Whoever asks grows. The Spirit is teacher, not judge.

5. What the Spirit works brings fruit

Galatians 5:22-23 is the touchstone: does it lead to love, peace, joy, or to pride, pressure, strife? 📝 Part 2: participant folder Reflection:

Read Galatians 5:25: "If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit."

What sometimes hinders me from following his impulse?

How can I learn to discern better?

Exercise, daily check:

Consider which small things you could consciously discuss with the Holy Spirit today: Shopping Conversation with someone Decision Conflict

Write down a concrete question, and be open for an answer.

Prayer time in the circle:

Whoever wishes can tell the others what they have experienced of leading in daily life.

Brief prayer: "Holy Spirit, lead me today, I want to learn to listen to you."

Part 3: What comes now?, concrete suggestion

1. Sensitivity challenge:

For 7 days, note every small impression or inner thought you consider "more than coincidence". Check it in the evening, did it bear fruit? Was peace with it?

2. Practicing together:

At the next home group: become quiet for 10 minutes, everyone listens, asks God: "What do you want to show me today?" Then exchange.

3. Internalize Bible verses:

John 14:26, "The Helper, the Holy Spirit … will bring to your remembrance all that I have said."

Romans 8:14, "All who are led by the Spirit are sons of God."

4. Outlook to the next topic:

Topic 10:

How does genuine community come about?
