Home Group Session 10: How does genuine community come about?, openness, acceptance, forgiveness

Part 1: For the Home Group Leader, leading & impulse

Goal of the session: create an atmosphere in which genuine, Spirit-worked community can arise, not through rules or programs, but through lived acceptance, honest relationship and the power of forgiveness. Participants should recognize that true community in the New Covenant grows from within, out of a heart that is loved by the Father. ⏱ approx. 60 minutes

📚 Preparation: Acts 2:42-47 / Romans 15:7 / Colossians 3:13 / 1 John 1:7 / John 13:35

📖 Key verse

John 13:35, "By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

Opening, ask the circle:

Short impulse: 3 keys of genuine community

1. Openness instead of mask

Community begins where people dare to be honest, about doubts, weaknesses, longing. This only works when there is a space of grace. And it begins with the leadership itself.

2. Acceptance instead of judgment

Romans 15:7: "Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."

In the New Covenant we are no longer built on performance, but on love. Acceptance is no tolerance, it is appreciation.

3. Forgiveness instead of withdrawal

Col 3:13: "Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive."

Conflicts arise everywhere, but forgiveness decides whether community grows or breaks apart. 📝 Part 2: participant folder Personal reflection: read John 13:1-17 (washing of feet) and note:

What speaks to you?

What does it show about Jesus' understanding of community?

Is there someone I should forgive, or ask for forgiveness?

What can I myself contribute so that our home group becomes a place of acceptance? Exercise: encouragement round in the circle Each person writes anonymously 1-2 encouraging sentences for another person from the home group (draw lots or choose freely).

→ Then read out loud or hand over.

Part 3: What comes now?, concrete suggestion

1. Encouragement impulse:

Write someone from the group a little message with building-up words in the coming week, consciously and honestly.

2. Forgiveness impulse:

If something has bothered or hurt you: address it gently or forgive inwardly, but do not let it stand.

3. Prayer:

Pray for one another that your circle becomes a place where healing, truth and acceptance are tangible, also for newcomers.

4. Outlook:

What would be the next step in your community? Perhaps praying together, fasting, starting an action, or helping someone together?
