Romans 8:15

Freedom from Accusation

Verse

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!"

Thought

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!" Paul contrasts two spirits: slavery and sonship. You have the Spirit of sonship, not of fear.

When accusation comes and says "Be afraid!" the Spirit in you answers: "Abba, Father!" You are a son, a daughter, not a slave. Fear and accusation belong to the old system. In sonship there is no place for them.

Truth & Application

Truth: Romans 8:15 clearly distinguishes: slavery brings fear, sonship brings closeness. You received the Spirit of sonship, not slavery. Every accusation that produces fear contradicts your spirit.

Today practical: When fear rises today, speak inwardly: "Abba, Father." That is not a pious formula, it is your spirit confirming your identity.

Question for you: Where are you letting the spirit of slavery speak when you have the Spirit of sonship?

Prayer

Abba, Father, thank You that I have the Spirit of sonship. Thank You that slavery and fear have no place anymore. Today I speak from sonship, not from fear. I release every accusation that would make me a slave. Holy Spirit, cry in me today: Abba, Father. Amen.
