Galatians 5:13
New Identity
Verse
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh.
Thought
You were called to freedom. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Paul confirms here: freedom is your calling, not your risk. But freedom has a direction.
In the New Covenant, you are not free so you can do whatever you want, but so you can live who you truly are. Your new identity is freedom. And this freedom expresses itself in love, not in lawlessness.
Freedom without identity becomes aimless. But freedom from identity becomes powerful and loving at the same time.
Truth & Application
Truth: Freedom in the New Covenant is not a license but an expression of your new identity. You are free because you are new. And as a new person, you naturally live differently.
Practical today: Use your freedom today for a concrete act of love. Not from duty but because you are free to do it.
Question for you: Where are you confusing freedom with arbitrariness?
Prayer
Father, thank you for calling me into freedom. I am free because I am new. Today I use my freedom for love. I release both legalism and aimlessness. Holy Spirit, show me today what freedom in love looks like. Amen.
