For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John marks a turning point: the law came through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus. Two different systems, two different ages.
Fear lives from the law: "Do this, do that, or else..." But grace and truth live from love. In the New Covenant you are no longer under the rule system but under grace. And grace makes you brave, because you are loved before you do anything.
Truth & Application
Truth: John 1:17 marks the transition: law through Moses, grace through Jesus. You no longer live under the law-system but under grace. Fear belongs to the old system, love to the new.
Today practical: When a voice says "You must..." today, ask yourself: is that law or grace? Then consciously choose grace and act from love.
Question for you: Where are you still letting law-thinking drive you today instead of grace?
Prayer
Father, thank You that grace and truth came through Jesus. Thank You that I no longer live under the law but under grace. Today I choose love over fear, grace over performance. Holy Spirit, show me today where I am still stuck in law-thinking. Amen.
