In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us. John reverses the direction: love does not begin with you. It begins with God. You are loved, that is the starting point, not the result.
When unrest steers you, remember: you do not need to earn or reciprocate God's love to be accepted. The love is already there. And on this love your peace stands, firm, unshakable, because God took the first step.
Truth & Application
Truth: 1 John 4:10 shows that love begins with God, not with you. You do not need to love first to be loved. You are loved, and from that your peace grows. Peace that does not depend on your performance.
Today practical: When unrest comes today, remember: God's love is already there. It does not wait for your return. Stand on this love as your peace-standing.
Question for you: Where are you trying to earn God's love today when it is already there?
Prayer
Father, thank You that You loved first. Thank You that I do not need to earn Your love. Today I stand on the peace of Your preceding love. I release the pressure to reciprocate love in order to be accepted. Holy Spirit, let me rest in God's love today. Amen.
